Sam is from Hereford, Arizona and currently lives in Bottineau, North Dakota. He began competing in 2005 after first getting into shooting through his high school JROTC 10-meter air rifle team.
From there, Sam transitioned into trap, skeet and sporting clays through the Scholastic Clay Target Program. He later attended Lindenwood University, competing on the shotgun team and earning four consecutive national championship titles.
